'Cooking Safely on a Budget' 2012 Launch!
'Cooking Safely on a Budget' was a 6 session course on offer here at Deaf Connections through the month of October 2012 for deaf/hard of hearing adult learners. It was funded by the Food Standards Agency - Food Safety Week Campaign and the tuition was delivered by a REHIS
tutor and supported by an ALN tutor. We ran our first cooking course earlier on in the year and it proved so successful and so popular we are hoping to make it a regular opportunity for the Deaf community!
For more information about ALN and the courses we run please contact Anne@deafconnections.co.uk We are currently taking names for January 2013 Cook & Learn.
Week 1
In Week 1 we had 2 sessions, Wednesday and Friday. Six of our ALN learners made 2 delicious dishes - a roast chicken dinner and then using the vegetable leftovers, a tasty warming soup with a nip! Importantly they also learned about cooking these dishes safely to avoid cross contamination and about best before and use by dates as well as other important health & hygiene do's and don'ts. It was very informative and everyone can't wait for the next session on Friday and to follow up with some exciting ALN oportunities!
