Final Week - 'Cooking Safely on a Budget'

In the final week of the 'Cooking Safely on a Budget' course the class celebrated their achievements by working together as a team to provide a delicious healthy buffet for the staff & visitors to the Deaf centre. They also managed to fit in a quiz and do a recap of all the important theory learned through the month. Everyone had different tasks to contribute to the buffet, we had sandwiches, wraps, cous cous, pasta, salad & cakes, the class put to good use all the great recipes and cooking methods they had learned to deliver a lovely afternoon for all. Well done everyone!

'Cooking Safely on a Budget' Week 5

Sweet week! In Week 5 we satisfied everybodies sugar cravings, but in a healthier way! We made Carrot Cake, Chocolate Brownies and Cheese Cake, all delicious and guilt-free! We looked at alternative ways of making more healthy desserts such as replacing full fat butter with oil, and cream with low fat cream cheese. This was a really enjoyable week as there was lots to take home and share with family and friends!

'Cooking Safely on a Budget' Week 4

In Week 4 we had an oriental theme by learning more about Chinese cooking. We made stir-fried rice, soup and fruit smoothies. We used leftover fruit and vegetables. We also did some theory in this week, concentrating on the 4 Cs food hygiene messages (cooking cleaning, cooling and avoiding cross-contamination). We discussed best ways to 'clean as we go', in order to avoid germs and pests.

'Cooking Safely on a Budget' Week 3

Week 3

This week were focused on avoiding contaminaton of food - like not wearing jewelry, nail polish etc. We had an Italian theme because we learned how to cook pizza from scratch, making fresh dough, our own pizza sauce and choosing our favourite toppings, even using some leftover veg for this. Not only that, we made pasta and soup to accompany our pizza also using leftover veg!
